OUR PURPOSE AND VISION

Darlington Community Foundation is a charitable organization that aims to advance the general welfare of people in Darlington and lower Florence Counties by providing support to qualified nonprofit organizations. The Foundation supports a broad range of charitable community services including, but not limited to, youth development, life skills, education, human services, arts, religion, and the promotion of cultural and historical events and programs.

Our vision is to create a sustainable impact within Darlington County and the surrounding areas by addressing local issues and providing for community needs through responsible giving.

ABOUT OUR DIRECTOR

Patsy Yarborough Sawyer is married to Thomas C. Sawyer, Jr. They reside in Darlington, SC and are the parents of adult twin daughters, Nikki and Nicole Sawyer, who reside in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Mrs. Sawyer and her husband are both deacons and members of the historic Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington, SC. Deacon Sawyer has a Masters in Human Resources Training & Development from Webster University and a Bachelors in Human Resources Management w/concentration in Social Welfare from Coker College.

Mrs. Sawyer is currently Executive Director/CEO of Darlington Community Foundation of Darlington SC which funds non-profit organizations in Darlington County and lower Florence County.

Mrs. Sawyer’s past work experience includes Director, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Pee Dee Branch; Director, Communities-in-Schools, Florence County; Executive Director, Pee Dee Education Foundation, Florence; Rape Crisis Coordinator/Counselor, Pee Dee Coalition, Florence and Darlington; and Personnel/EEO/MBE Officer, Apac-Carolina, Inc, Darlington.Presently, Mrs. Sawyer is a member of the Board of Commissioners for Darlington County Community Action Agency where she represents low income individuals and families in Darlington.Mrs. Sawyer enjoys reading, traveling, and helping youth to succeed. Her motto is The Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
